XUANNI HE 何宣霓
PRODUCER, COMPOSER AND VIOLINIST
Guangdong Hakka, based in London.
She was originally a classical violinist in a symphony orchestra, and began exploring new music through free improvisation. Initially, she connected her violin to a pedal, but eventually discarded the violin to focus on harsh hardware noise. She then immersed herself further in the experimental music scene as a founding member of GZB and Saikung Dogs, touring in China, and also organized experimental music events.
When she moved to London, she began composing and producing music. Her vocal processing piece created for a 6.2 surround sound system have been featured in the BBC Total Immersion Symphony Electronic series and broadcast on BBC Radio 3. She has also created live music for dancers and composed soundtracks for visual arts and films. Her live hardware electronic performances has been delivered at well-known venues, including Milton Court, Peckham Audio, Hundred Years Gallery, Avalon Café, and Electrowerkz.
Her sonic palette draws from industrial dance music, gabber, noise, and chiptune. By patching her drum machine into a no-input mixer, her music explores melody and groove within noise, blurring the boundaries between noise and rhythm, builds her signature industrial sound with distorted beats.
